👨‍🏫🧑‍🏫👩‍🏫👩‍🏫Meet the “Derry Girls” – Taking on Family Fortunes for Mayobridge GAC!

With almost 100 years 🧐of teaching experience between them, and two fine ladies from the county of Derry, this team are stepping up to the Family Fortunes stage and they’re hoping that decades of answering questions in the classroom will help them answer a few on the night.

🏅Meet the team:

Teresa Crimmins😇
Teresa Crimmins has been shaping young minds for an impressive 32 years, which officially qualifies her for both sainthood and a lifetime supply of strong tea. When she’s not in the classroom performing daily miracles, she’s proudly known as the mother of senior players Adam, Cara and Orla, a title she wields with the same authority as a referee with a brand‑new whistle.
Outside of work, Teresa can be found hill walking, usually at a pace that leaves younger folk questioning their fitness levels, or practicing pilates, where she bends, stretches, and occasionally wonders why she didn’t take up something easier… like competitive napping.

Benny McArdle 🎨
Benny McArdle has been teaching for 26 years, which means he’s survived more parent‑teacher evenings, lost homework excuses, and “I swear the bell already went” moments than most humans could reasonably endure.
Before mastering the art of classroom crowd control, Benny carved out a proud football career with Dromintee, where he was known for his commitment, grit, and the occasional “creative interpretation” of what the referee really meant.
When he’s not shaping young minds or reminiscing about the glory days on the pitch, Benny can be found indulging in his hobbies: painting where he expresses himself with colours he can’t pronounce and running, because apparently one athletic career just wasn’t enough.
A man of many talents, Benny moves seamlessly between canvas, classroom, and sideline, proving that true versatility is equal parts skill, stubbornness, and a good pair of boots.

Roisin Woods 🙄
Roisin Woods has been teaching for 30 years, which means she has officially earned the right to roll her eyes with Olympic‑level precision. As the Principal of St. Patrick’s College, Banbridge, she runs the school with a perfect blend of authority, humour, and the kind of calm that only comes from decades of hearing “Miss, I didn’t know there was homework.”
Proud mum of four sporty children, Eoghan, Patrick, Aoibheann and Liam, Roisin is very clear on one thing: any sporting talent in the house comes from the Scullion side of the family.
When she’s not leading a school or reminding people where the sporting genes really came from, Roisin can be found hill walking, striding across the countryside with the confidence of a woman who has survived staff meetings and teenage moods.
A principal, a parent, and a professional truth‑teller about family genetics,
Roisin does it all with style, stamina, and a great pair of walking boots.

Conall Gordon 👶
Conall Gordon is only at the beginning of his teaching career, but don’t let that fool you, he’s already mastered the essentials: surviving playground duty, locating missing glue sticks, and pretending he definitely did plan that lesson.
On the pitch, Conall lines out at half back for Rostrevor, where he combines youthful energy with the confidence of a man who still recovers from matches faster than everyone else.
He’s proudly known as “the child of the team”, a title he carries with pride and regularly reminds the older members of the Derry Girls team.
Representing St. Patrick’s Primary, Mayobridge, Conall brings enthusiasm, talent, and the kind of fresh-faced optimism that makes everyone else feel both inspired and slightly ancient.
A rising star in the classroom and on the field, Conall is proof that every team needs a young buck to keep things lively.

Like all great teachers, they’re putting their talents to work for the community. Expect coffee mornings in school, sporting events for pupils, and plenty of good humour as they rally support to help fund the new community gym, a project that will benefit generations to come.

The Derry Girls are ready, willing, and maybe even slightly prepared. Now they just need your support.🥳🎊
